Welcome
November 2012
Hello and welcome to the website for "Fare", the latest film, and the biggest production to date from award-winning director Pj Harling. Pj has worked in The British film and television industry for almost 20 years, working on productions such as "American Beauty", "Nil By Mouth", "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "Casino Royale". His first short film "Dipper" was voted 'Best in Show' at the Best Shorts Film Festival and also won The Triggerstreet Online Short Film Festival in 2010.
The story of "Fare" wasn't originally conceived as a knee-jerk response to the malaise of Banker's bonuses, the script actually started over ten years ago as a half hour episode for Channel 5's "Urban Gothic". Jude Cook, a novelist and screenwriter with over fifteen years experience of screenwriting and script-editing, and co-writer Ben North, now a Creative Director at Harper Collins, decided to write a story about a trip over the Thames, with the river standing in for the mythical river Styx.
Little has changed since that first draft as it's many strengths were clearly visible. In fact, it was only a matter of time before it was going to get made. At the beginning of 2011, once Jude and Pj had finished a draft of a feature film, CONSEQUENCe, it was noticed that the themes of "Fare" seemed intrinsically linked to those of the feature. Now it HAD to be made!

Interview with the director Pj Harling on 'Down With Film'
July 2012
Down With Film – What were the influences behind the story of Fare?
PJ Harling – The idea was to say something about Capitalism and inequality – but not in a worthy, preachy way. With the current financial crisis, the themes are more relevant than ever. We decided to tell the story in a parable form using Greek mythology – those who sin receive a punishment commensurate with their crime. Hopefully this is told cinematically, with a lot of excitement along the way, as well as reflecting the state of London in the early 21st century.

Regulars here will know I tend to cover the big expensive blockbustery type of film. But there are some films out there being made for less than the Transformers catering budget. And some of them are pretty interesting.
One such is Fare, a new thriller being made by director PJ Harling. It’s a mystical-sounding horror fantasy joint with echoes of Neil Gaiman, but plugged right into that zeitgeisty banker-hostility that we are all, to a greater or lesser extent, feeling right now.

April 2012
Jon Haward alerts us to an IndieGoGo campaign for Brit Indy movie Fare, in which an arrogant City businessman struggles to get a taxi late one evening in London, until one cab does pick him up – but you know you are going to go into surreal, fantasy realms when your cab driver taking you towards the river is called Charon and he is taking you towards a Stygian version of the Thames where you will need to pay the ferryman his fare.
